Washington Insider Spring 2026—Louis Brown

In fall of 2025 and early winter of 2026, policy makers, corporations, advocacy groups, public policy think tanks, faith-based organizations, and the public passionately debated the future of American health care. This health care debate was triggered by the expiration of the temporary expanded Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies that Congress enacted during the COVID-19 public health crisis, and which were scheduled to expire on December 31, 2025. At the heart of this ongoing debate is fundamentally a question of whether the American people, through their representatives, will move the American health care system toward a government centered socialized system or toward a patient centered health system in a free market economy.
