Job Title: Production Editor                                       Reports to: Director of Publications

Employment Status: Full-time, salaried, exempt    Compensation: $50,000 – $55,000

Benefits: Medical benefits covered at 100% cost for employees and their families. Health benefits also include dental plan and HRA medical reimbursement. SEP employer pension with organization giving an annual contribution of 3%. Generous paid time off and 14+ company holidays.

Location: This is an on-site position in Broomall, Pennsylvania (outside of Philadelphia).

Job Summary: The Production Editor oversees the production of publications in conjunction with the Director of Publications and other staff. This includes serial publications and occasional books. Must be a practicing Catholic with a commitment to the teachings of the Church who seeks to advance the mission of The National Catholic Bioethics Center (NCBC).

Responsibilities: Work in conjunction with the Managing Editor to review submissions to our quarterly journal, The National Catholic Bioethics Quarterly, and our monthly bulletin, Ethics & Medics. The Associate Editor edits, fact checks, and styles footnotes for selected pieces that have been accepted for publication, alongside the Managing Editor. The Chicago Manual of Style, with certain in-house modifications, is the standard for all NCBC publications. The Production Editor will also be responsible for typesetting using Adobe InDesign and for proofreading typeset work.

The position may also involve future book projects, as needed. This position requires strong organizational, critical thinking, communication and writings skills, and a familiarity with the life sciences and the Catholic moral tradition.

  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Suite and desktop publishing.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style.

  • Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, and other Adobe products.

  • Ability to produce brochures, workbooks, and other formats.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Philosophy, Theology, or suitable field.

  • Two years’ experience in publishing, editing, and/or writing.
