Decades of experience, six full-time PhD ethicists, and the trust of US bishops and the Vatican make The National Catholic Bioethics Center the premier provider of ethics consultation services for Catholic organizations such as dioceses, Catholic health care institutions, and employers.

Catholic Identity and Ethics Reviews (CIER)

Through its Catholic Identity and Ethics Review (CIER) program, the NCBC provides comprehensive, consistent reviews of Catholic hospitals, health care systems, and nursing homes based on the USCCB’s Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.

Catholic Health Insurance Ethics Reviews (CHIER)

Through its Catholic Health Insurance Ethics Review (CHIER) program, the NCBC helps Catholic dioceses and other employers to navigate the ethical complexities of health benefit planning so that employees can appropriately access morally sound interventions for infertility, miscarriage, women’s health issues, gender dysphoria, and others, while avoiding the use of scarce resources to pay for immoral practices such as gender transitioning, abortion, contraception, assisted suicide, artificial reproduction, and sterilization.

Institutional Consultations and Services

The NCBC provides a wide range of institutional ethics consultations and services, including comprehensive ethics support for Catholic health care systems, ethical analysis of major transactions, and targeted analysis of issues, incidents, policies, and programs. In addition, NCBC ethicists are qualified to provide expert testimony regarding Catholic moral standards and teachings in legal proceedings. NCBC consultations are confidential and include recommendations for resolution and education.
