Certification Program in Health Care Ethics
June 23, 2005
At the request of many U.S. bishops and administrators of health care facilities,
the National Catholic Bioethics Center is launching a National Catholic
Certification Program in Health Care Ethics beginning in August. This part-time,
one year program has been developed by Rev. Tad Pacholczyk, the NCBC's Director
of Education, to provide a systematic formation so that dioceses, hospitals and
ethics committees will have advisors better qualified to apply the Catholic moral
tradition to challenging contemporary issues in health care.
The Catholic Certification Program in Health Care Ethics will use the Ethical and
Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services issued by the U.S. Catholic
Bishops as the organizing framework for the curriculum, as well as additional
materials and specific case studies.
The program commences with a two-day seminar at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in
Boston, or Santa Teresita Hospital in Los Angeles. The various modules will be
engaged through guided independent study, followed by an assessment of each
student†˘s theoretical understanding and practical application of module content.
The program will culminate in an intensive one-day seminar of case studies at the
NCBC, Philadelphia location.
